Two number are successively drawn from the set U={1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8} the second being drawn without replacing the first. The number of elementary event in the sample is:

A

r=16

B

r=32

C

r=33

D

r=34

The correct Answer is:
C

P(X=r) will be maximum when r is mode. There are 2 cases.
If (n+1) P is an integer, binomial distribution is bimodal and two modal values are (n+1)P and (n+1)P-1.
(ii) If (n+1)P is not an integer, then modal values is integral part of (n+1)P
Here, (n+1)P=(100+1) `(1)/(3)=101 xx(1)/(3)=33.69` which is not integer,
`therefore P(X=r)` is maxmimum at integral part of 33.69 i,e, r=33
