In the final Uranium radicactive series ...

In the final Uranium radicactive series the initial nucleus is ` _(238)^(92) U ` and the final nucleus is ` _(82)^(206) pb` . When Uranium necleus docays to lead , the number of a - particle is …….. And the number of `beta` - particles emited is ……

`_(82)^(238) U rarr_(82)^(206) pb + x _(2)^(4) He + y_(-1)^(0) e `
First we find the number of a - particle . The change in mass number during the dacay from uranium to lead ` = 238 - 206 - 32 ` therefore , the number of a - particle (with mass no `4`
` = (32)/(4) = 8` The change is atamic number (i, e, number of proton ) taking place when `S a- particle are emited and lead is formed is `= 92 - (82 + 2 xx 8) = 92 - (82 + 16) = 92 - 98 = - 6` This change will take place by emiting of six `beta - particle` .
