DNA fingerprinting :
1. it is a method for identifying individuals by the particular structure of their DNA.
2. It is also known as DNA typing or Genetic Fingerprinting .
3. This technique was first developed by Alec Jeffreys & his colleagues at Leicester University, UK in 1985 - 86 .
Principals : 1. The human genome contains 3 billion base pairs which are arraged in a particular sequence that gives us a unique identity .
2. But still the DNA in every human being about 99*9% nucleotide bases are exactly same in human beings .
3. DNA fingerprinting is based upon the rest 10% difference in the human DNA.
This method is dome by matching the uncommon sequence of humans with the suspect's unique sequence .
Applications : Forensic analysis : For identification of a suspect in a crime .
Medico - legal cases : Estabilishing paternity and/or maternity accurately.
Pedigree analysis : Inheritance pattern of gene through generations .
Anthropological Studies : Charting of origin and migration of human population.
Conservation of wild life : Protection of endangered species .
Diagnosis : It is used to diagnose the genetic disorders like haemophilia , sickle cell anemia etc.
