What is 'biofortification'? Which steps would you follow to develop a new variety of crop plant by selective breeding?

(iii) Biofortilication:
1) Biofertification is a method of breeding crops to increase their nutritive value.
2) It makes food more nutrition.
3) It is very important in areas with nutritional deficiencies so helpful in eradication of deficiency diseases in developing world.
4) Selective breeding and genetic modification are two technique to be used by Biofertification.
5) Example: Hybrid maize and Golden rice.
Selective breeding: 1) In the process new seeds are searched from banks for varieties of crops which are high in nutrients and high in yields.
(2) Crossbreding is done between crops of high yield and high nutritive values.
3) Thus crops grown have high yeilds and high nutritive value which is very beneficial.
4) This technique is being used in research and commercial production.
5) IARI, Pusa, New Delhi is using this technique and produced high protein beans.
