A small spherical ball is suspended through a string of length `l` . The whole arrangement is placed in a vehicle which is moving with velocity `v` . Now, suddenly the vehicle stops and ball starts moving along a circular path. If tension in the string at the highest point is twice the weight of the ball then (assume that the ball completes the vertical circle)

A

`v=sqrt(5gl)`

B

`v=sqrt(7gl)`

C

velocity of the ball at highest point is `sqrt(gl)`

D

velocity of the ball at highest point is `sqrt(3gl)`

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The correct Answer is:
B, D

`T+mg=(mu^(2))/(l)`
`:. 2mg+mg=(mu^(2))/(l)`
or `u=sqrt(3gl)`
`v^(2)=u^(2)+2gh=3gl+2g(2l)`
`=7gl`
:. `v=sqrt(7gl)`

A ball of mass m is suspended by a thread of length l. A ball of mass m is attached to one end of a light rod of length l , the other end of which is hinged. What minimum velocity v should be imparted to the ball downwards, so that it can complete the circle ?

A small positively charged ball of mass m is suspended by an insulating thread of length L. This ball remains in equilibrium with string horizontal when another small charged ball is placed exactly at a distance L below the point of suspension of the first ball. The second ball is slowly moved away from the first ball to a far away point. (The second ball is moved horizontally so that the first ball does not accelerate). As a result the first ball lowers down to the original position of the second ball and the string become vertical. Find the work done by the external agent in removing the second ball.
