the disc of the radius r is confined to ...

the disc of the radius r is confined to roll without slipping at A and B if the plates have the velocities shown, determine the angular velocity of the disc.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

let `v_(0)` be the linear velocity and `omega_(0)` the angular velocity of the disc as shown in figure then.
`v_(0)-romega_(0)=2v` .(i)
and `v_(0)+romega_(0)=-v` …(ii)
Solving Eqs. (i) and (ii) we have
`omega_(0)=-(3)/(2)(v)/(r)`
Hence the angular velocity of disc is `(3)/(2)(v)/(r)` anticlockwise.
