Assertion : Nitrogen is less reactive than molecular oxygen.
Reason: Bond length of `N_(2)` is shorter than that of oxygen.

A

if both Assertion and Reason are true and reason is the correct explanation of the assertion.

B

if both assertion and reason are true but reason is not the correct expalanation of the assertion

C

if assertion is true, reason is false

D

both assertion and reason are false statements.

The correct Answer is:
a

Bond order of `N_(2)=3` bond order of `O_(2)=2`. Higher the bond order, higher is the bond dissociation energy i.e., higher stability or less reactivity. Thus `N_(2)` less reactive than `O_(2)`. Higher the bond order, shorter is the bond length. Shorter bond length of `N_(2)` shows its higher bond order.
