Copper containing zinc as impurity is refined by electrolysis. The cathode and anode used are

A

`{:(Cathode,,,Anode),( Pure copper, , ,Pure zi nc):}`

B

`{:(Cathode,,,Anode),(Pure zi n c, , ,Pure copper):}`

C

`{:(Cathode,,,Anode),(Pure copper, , ,Impure copper):}`

D

`{:(Cathode,,,Anode),(Pure zi nc, , ,Impure zi nc):}`

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The correct Answer is:
c

This is a method of refining of metals. Pure `Cu` is made cathode and impure `Cu` is made anode. Pure `Cu` from anode passes into the solution and gets depositved on pure `Cu` cathode. Impurities in impure `Cu` fall down as anode mud.
