Which one of the following electrolytes ...

Which one of the following electrolytes is most effective for the coagulation of `Fe(OH)_(3) sol` and why?
`NaCl, Na_(2)SO_(4),Na_(3)PO_(4)`

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

`Fe(OH)_(3)` is a positively charged sol. According Hardy Schulze rule, greater the charge on an oppositely charged ions of the electrolyte added, more effectively it is in bringing about the coagulation, Hence, `Na_(3)PO_(4)` (containing `PO_(4)^(3-)` inos) is more effective.
