A certain radio isotope `._(Z)X^(A)` (half life `= 10 ` days) decays to give `._(Z-2)Y^(A-4)` . If `1.0 g` atom of `X` is kept in a sealed vessel, find the volume of helium accumulated at `STP` in `20` days ?

Decay of one atom of `._(Z)X^(A)` ot `._(z - 2)Y^(A - 4)` produces one helium atom. Hence, decay of `1 g` atoms of `._(Z)X^(A)` will produce `1 g` atom of helium gas. As the half of `X` is 10 days.
therefore amount decayed in 50 days `= (1)/(2) + (1)/(2) = (3)/(4) g` atom
`1 g` atom fo `He = (22400 cm^(3))` at `STP`
`:. (3)/(4) g` atom of `He = 22400 xx (3)/(4) = 16800 cm^(3)`
