The object in fig. weighs 40kg and hangs at rest. Find the tensions in the three cords that hold it.

From the FBD of the block it is clear that tension in lower cord is `400N`. Figure shows the junction where the three cords meets.
As the system is in equilibrium, net sum of all the forces at the junction must be zero. In horizontal direction, we get
`cos 53^(@)T_(2)-cos 37^(@)T_(1)=0` ...(i)
In vertical direction, we get
`sin 37^(@)T_(1)+sin 53^(@)T_(2)-400=0` ...(ii)
On solving the above equation, we get
`T_(1)=240N and T_(2)=320N`.
