A gas at `27^@ C` in a cylinder has a volume of 4 litre and pressure `100 Nm^-2`. Gas is first compressed at constant temperature so that the pressure is `150 Nm^-2` . Calculate the change in volume.

A

1.22L

B

1.33 L

C

1.44 L

D

1.55 L

The correct Answer is:
B

Given , `V_(1)=4L,V_(2)=`?,
`P_(1)=100Nm^(-2),P_(2)=150Nm^(-2),DeltaV`= ?
Using Boyle's law for constant temperature , We have
`p_(1)V_(1)=p_(2)V_(2)rArrV_(2)=(p_(1)V_(1))/(p_(2))=(100xx4)/(150)=2.667L`
`therefore` Change in volume , `DeltaV=V_(1)-V_(2)=4-2.667=1.33L`
