If the distance between the plates of a parallel plate capacitor of capacity `10muF` is doubled, then new capacity will be

A

`5muF`

B

`20muF`

C

`10muF`

D

`15muF`

Text Solution

The correct Answer is:
A

In parallel plate capacitor,
`C=epsilon_(0)(A)/(d)" …(i)"`
Now d' = 2d
Hence, `C'=(epsilon_(0)A)/(2d)" …(ii)"`
From Eqs. (i) and (ii), we get
`(C')/(C)=(1)/(2)`
`rArr" "C'=(C)/(2)`
Putting `C=10muF rArr C'=(10)/(2)=5muF`
