An electron and a proton with equal momentum enter perpendicularly into a uniform magnetic field, then

A

path of both will be straight line

B

both are equally curved

C

the path of proton shall be less curved than that of electron

D

the path of proton shall be less curved than that of electron

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The correct Answer is:
B

The radius of circular path traced by electron and proton is given by
`r=(mv)/(qB)=(p)/(qB)=sqrt(2mKE)/(qB)`
`therefore r prop v prop p prop sqrt(k)`
As both proton and electron have same momentum hence both will have the same circular path i.e both are equally curved
