A binary silod`(A^(+) B^(-))` has a zine blende stracture with B inos consititating the lattice and `A^(+)` inos occupyiong `25%` of the terahedral holes. The formula of the solid is

A

AB

B

`A_2B`

C

`AB_2`

D

`AB_4`

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The correct Answer is:
C

Number of `B^-` ions in unit cell `=8xx1/8+6xx1/2=4`
Now `A^+` ion occupies 25% of tetrahedral holes
`=(8xx25)/(100)=2`
Thus , ratio of `B^-` is 2 : 1 or formula is `AB_2`
