The thermal decomposition of HCOOH is a ...

The thermal decomposition of HCOOH is a first order reaction. The rate constant is `2.4xx 10^(-3) s^(-1)` at a certain temperature. Calculate how long will it take for 3/4 of initial quantity of HCOOH to decompose

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Give reaction is a first order reaction.
`t_((1)/(2))=(0.693)/(k) =(0.693)/(2.4xx10^(-3))=288.75 sec.`
To convert into `3/4` of the original, two half lifes are required.
Time of decompose `=2 xx 288.75`
`=577.5 sec. `
`=5.775xx10^(2)sec. `
