`PH_(3)` is a weaker base than `NH_(3)` - Explain.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

`PH_(3)` is a weaker base than `NH_(3)`.
`to` In `NH_(3)` nitrogen atom undergoes `"SP"^(3)` hybridisation and due to small size it has high electron density than in 'P' of `PH_(3)`.
`to` Due to large size of 'P' atom and availability of large surface area, lonepair of electron spread in `PH_(3)`. Hence `PH_(3)` is weaker base then `NH_(3)`.
