`NH_(3)` forms hydrogen bonds but `PH_(3)` does not - why ?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

`NH_(3)` forms hydrogen bonds put `PH_(3)` does not.
Reason : Ammonia forms hydrogen bonds because it it a polar molecule and N-H bond is highly polar. Nitrogen has more electronegativity than phosphrous. In case of `PH_(3)` P-H bond polarity decreases.
