Why is `"BiH"_(3)` the strongest reducing agent amongst all the hydrides of Group 15 elements ?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Among the 15 group elements, the size of Bi atom is largest and hence, the Bi-H bond length is largest or Bi-H bond dissociation energy is lowest. That's why Bi-H bond dissociates more readily than the other hydrides of the group and hence, `"BiH"_(3)` is the strongest reducing agent.
