What do you infer from the fact that `M^(3+)//M^(2+)` standard electrode potential of Mn is comparatively higher and that of Fe is comparitively lower ?

Text Solution

`M^(3+)//M^(2+)` standard electrode potential of Mn is comparatively higher than that of Fe is comparatively lower. This is because much larger `3^(rd)` ionisation energy of Mn `(d^(5)" to "d^(4))`.

Redox reactions play a pivotal role I chemistry and bilogy . The values of standard redox potential (E^(@)) of two half - cell reaction decided which way the reaction is expected to proceed. A simple example is a Daniel cell in which zinc goes into solution and copper get deposited.
