Cu^(+2) forms halides like CuF(2), CuCl(...

`Cu^(+2)` forms halides like `CuF_(2), CuCl_(2) and CuBr_(2)` but not `CuI_(2)`. Why ?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

`Cu^(+2)` forms halides like `CuF_(2), CuCl_(2) and CuBr_(2)` but not `CuI_(2)` because `Cu^(+2)` oxidises `I^(-)" to "I_(2)`
`2Cu^(+2)+4I^(-) rarr Cu_(2)I_(2)+I_(2)`.
