How would you account for the The `d_(1)` configuration is very unstable in ions.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Ions of transition metals with `d^(1)` configuration tend to lose one electron to acquire `d^(0)` configuration that is quite stable. Therefore, such ions (with `d^(1)`) undergo either oxidation or disproportionation hence unstable.
