Taking `l_(1) = l`,
`l_(2) = 2l`
Since `V_(d) prop l, (V_(d_(2)))/(V_(d_(1))) = (l_(2))/(l_(1))`
`(V_(d_(2)))/(V_(d_(1))) = (2l)/(l)`
`:. V_(d_(2)) = 2 V_(d_(1))`
`:.` Drift speed of electrons changes by a factor 2.

What is the drift speed of electrons ?

If the voltage V applied across a conductor is increased to 2V, how will the drift velocity of the electrons change?

(A): If the length of the conductor is doubled, the drift velocity will become half of the original value. (keeping potential diffe rence unchanged). (R): At constant potential difference, drift velocity is inversely proportional to the length of the conductor.

If the number of turns of a solenoid is doubled, keeping the other factors constant, how does the magnetic field at the axis of the solenoid change?

The de Broglie wavelength of an electron is 1A^(@) . In what potential difference electron accelerates

(a) Estimate the speed with which electrons emitted from a heated emitter of an evacuated tube impinge on the collector maintained at a potential difference of 500 V with respect to the emitter. Ignore the small initial speeds of the electrons. The specific charge of the electron, i.e., its e/m is given to be 1.76 xx 10^(11) C kg^(-1) . (b) Use the same formula you employ in (a) to obtain electron speed for an collector potential of 10 MV. Do you see what is wrong ? In what way is the formula to be modified?

Let the resistance of an electrical component remains constant while the potential difference across the two ends of the component decreases to half of its former value. What change will occur in the current through it?

(A): If the P.D applied to a conductor doubles, the drift velocity of electrons also doubles. (R): Doubling the potential difference, doubles the current flow in a conductor.
