A resistance thermometer measures temper...

A resistance thermometer measures temperature with the increase in resistance of a wire of high temperature. If the wire is platinum and has resistance of `10Omega` at `20^@C` and a resistance of `35Omega` in a hot furnace, what is the teperature of the furnace? `(alpha_("platinum") = 0.0036^@C^(-1))`

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

We assume that `alpha` is constant over the needed temperature range.
Then `DeltaR = alphaRtriangle t leades "to" (35 - 10) = 0.0036 (10)Delta`. Solving , we
get `Delta t = 25//0.036 = 694^@C. Finaly `694 +20 = 714^(@C)` (furnace temperautre.)
