A `25 W, 220 V` bulb and a `100 W , 220 V` bulb are connected in series across a `220 V` line , which electric bulb will glow brightly?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

` 25 W` bulb will glow brighter. This is because `P = I^(2) R` where `I` is the current flowing and `R` is the resistance of the appliance. When `I` is same, `P prop R`. The resistance of `25 W` bulb is more and therefore `P` is more.
