A thin film of refractive index 1.5 and thickness `4 xx 10^(-5)` cm is illuminated by light normal to the surface. What wavelength within the visible spectrum will be intensified in the reflected beam?

A

`4800 Å`

B

`5800 Å`

C

`6000 Å`

D

`6800 Å`

The correct Answer is:
a

Condition for observing bright fringe is
`2 nd = (m + (1)/(2)) lambda`
`:. lambda = (2 nd)/((m + (1)/(2))) = (2 xx 1.5 xx 4 xx 10^(-5))/(m + (1)/(2))`
`= (12 xx 10^(-5))/(m + (1)/(2))`
The integer m that gives the wavelength in the visible region (`4000 Å` to `7000 Å`) is `m = 2`. In that case,
`lambda = (12 xx 10^(-5))/(2 (1)/(2)) = 4.8 xx 10^(-5) = 4800 Å`

A glass plate (n=1.53) that is 0.485 mu m thick and surrounded by air is illuminated by a beam of white light normal to the plate. (a) What wavelengths (in air) within the limits of the visible spectrum (lambda = 400 "to" 700 nm) are intensified in the reflected beam ? (b) What wavelengths within the visible spectrum are intensified in the transmitted light?

A lens ( mu=1.5 ) is coated with a thin film of refractive index 1.2 order to reduce the reflected form its surface at lambda=4800Å .Find the maximum thickness of the film which will minimized the intensity of the reflected light .(Assume near normal incidence)

A thin film having refractive index mu" = 1.5" has air on both sides. It is illuminated by white light falling normally on it. Analysis of the reflected light shows that the wavelengths 450 nm and 540 nm are the only missing wavelengths in the visible portion of the spectrum. Assume that visible range is 400 nm to 780 nm. (a) Find thickness of the film. (b) Which wavelengths are brightest in the interference pattern of the reflected light?

A 4.0 xx 10^(2) nm thick film of kerosene (n = 1.2) is floating on water. White light is normally incident on the film. What is the visible wavelength in air that has a maximum intensity after the light is reflected? Note: The visible wavelength range is 380 nm to 750 nm.

When the plastic thin film of refractive index 1.45 is placed in the path of one of the interfering waves then the central fringe is displaced through width of five fringes. The thickness of the film will be ,if the wavelength of light is 5890Å

White light falls normally on a film of soap water whose thickness is 5xx10^(-5)cm and refractive index is 1.40. The wavelengths in the visible region that are reflected the most strongly are :

A thin uniform film of refractive index 1.75 is placed on a sheet of glass of refractive index 1.5. At room temperature (20^(@) C) this film is just thick enoungh for light with wavelength 600 nm reflected off the top of the film to be canceled by light reflected from the top the glass. After the glass is placed in on oven and slowly heated to 170^(@) C , the film conceals reflected light with wavelength 606 nm. The coefficient of linear expansion of the film is (ignore any changes in the refractive index of the film due to the temperature change)
