Discuss the importance of heavy water in nuclear reactor.

Heavy water is used as a moderator in nuclear reactors because it slows down the fast moving neutrons and therefore helps in cotrolling the nuclear fission process. It has also been used as a tracer compound to study the mechanism of many chemical reactions.
