Why molbilities of H^(o+) ions in ice is...

Why molbilities of `H^(o+)` ions in ice is greater as compared to liquid water.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

In liquid `H_(2)O,H^(o+)` ions (obtained from ionisation of `H_(2)O`) are easily hydrated. As a result, the size of the hydrated `H^(o+)` ions is much larger than in ice. Hence, their mobility in `H_(2)O` is less than in ice.
