H2 O is a liquid while H2 S is a gas....

`H_2 O` is a liquid while `H_2 S` is a gas.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Oxygen is more electronegative than sulphur. Hence oxygen forms hydrogen bonds. Due to intermolecular hydrogen bonding between `H_(2) O` molecules, it exists as a liquid. On the other hand, hydrogen bonding is absent in `H_(2) S` and `H_(2) S` exists as a gas.
