The carbanion `overset(Θ)(C )H_(2)COCH_(2)CH_(3)` adds to PhCHO followed by dehydration to give `PhCH=CHCO CH_(2)CH_(3)` (C ).

ii. With an acid, `PhCH=overset(o+)(O)H` adds to `beta`-C of enol
`(Me underset(OH)underset(|)C=overset(beta)CH Me)` since the enol is more substituted and more stable to give
`(PhCH=overset(Me)overset(|)(C)-underset(O)underset(||)C-Me)` (D).
