The angle made by orbital angular momentum of electron with the direction of the orbital magnetic moment is

A

`120^(@)`

B

`60^(@)`

C

`180^(@)`

D

`90^(@)`

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The correct Answer is:
C

The relation between electron's angular momentum L and magnetic moment μ given, ltbr gt`mu=-e/(2m_(e))L,` where e and `m_(e)` are the charges and mass of the electron.
Here, negative sign shows that the angular momentum and magentic moment are in opposite direction to each other i.e., if L in + z-direction then μ in-z- direction
So, the angle between Land μ is 180°.
