A star is going away from the earth. An observer on the earth will see the wavelength of light coming from the star

A

becoming orange

B

shining yellow

C

gradually changing to blue

D

gradually changing to red

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The correct Answer is:
C

Due to the doppler's effect of light, when an object moves closer to source the light moves to the blue end of the spectrum, as its wavelength get shorter. (or frequency increases) Thus, if a star emitting yellow light and is accelerating towards an observer on earth , it will appear that its colour is gradual ly changing to blue. So, option (c) is correct.
