When ice is heated the temperature of ic...

When ice is heated the temperature of ice remains constant till it melts completely. Justify this statement.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

1.During transition of ice (solid phase) to water (liquid), ice absorbs heat energy but its temperature does not increase
2.The temperature remains constant, because the heat energy is utilized for weakening the bonds between the atoms or molecules in the ice and transfonns it into water.
