Two projectile are projected with the same velocity. If one is projected at an angle of `30^(@)` and other at `60^(@)` to the horizontal. The ratio of maximum heights reached, is:

A

`2:1`

B

`1:3`

C

`3:1`

D

`1:4`

Text Solution

The correct Answer is:
B

If body is projected with initial velocity u at an angle `theta` with the horizontal, then the maximum height H reached by projected is:
`H=(u^(2)sin^(2) theta)/(2g)`
Given, `theta_(1)=30^(@) and theta_(2)=60^(@)`
`:. (H_(1))/(H_(2))=(sin^(2) theta_(1))/(sin^(2) theta_(2))=(sin^(2)(30^(@)))/(sin^(2)(60^(@)))`
`=((1/2)^(2))/(((sqrt(3))/2)^(2))=1/3`
