Automobile tyres are inflated to about 30 `("pound")/("inch"^2)((lb)/("in"^2))` whereas bicycle tyres are inflated to 90 to `115(lb)/(I n^2), at leastthree times as much pressure ! Why?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Bicycle tyres have a much smaller contact area with ground so they need a high pressure to balance the weight of the bicycle and the rider.
