A neutron starj has a density equal to theat of nuclear matter `(~= 2.8xx10^(17) kg//m^3).` Assuming the star to be spherical, find the radius of the neutron star whose mass is `4.0xx10^(30)kg.`

Text Solution

The correct Answer is:
15 km

Here, `rho = 2.8xx10^(17)kg//m^3`
`r = ? M= 4.0xx10^(30)kg`
As `rho = (mass)/(volume) = (M)/((4)/3)pi r^3`
`:. r = ((3M)/(4pi rho))^(1//3) = (3xx4.0xx10^(30))/(4xx3.14xx2.8xx10^(17))^(1//3)`
`r = 1.5xx10^4m = 15km`
