What is the differnce between the follwing data ? (i) 3 (5 km h^(-1) , west ) (ii) 3 hour (5 km h^(-1), west).

Text Solution

(i) It is the product of a pure muber and a velocity vector, hence the unit of product is same as that of velocity vector i.e. the product is a velocity of magnitude `15 km h^(-1)` towards west. (ii) It is the product of a scalar (time ) and velocity vector. The unit of this product will be hour ` xx km h^(-1) =km `. Thus the product is a dis-placement of magnitude ` 15 km 1 towards west.
