What are the angles made by vector vec ...

What are the angles made by vector ` vec A =hat I + sqer 3 hat j` with x-axis and y-axis ?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Comparing the given vector ` vec A= hat i + sqrt 3 hat j` with
vector, ` vec A= A_(x) hat I + A_(x) hat j`,
we have ` A_x =1 and A_x =sqrt`
:. A = sqrt( A_x ^2 + A_y^2) = sqrt( 1^2 + (sqrt3)^2 )=2`
Let ` alpha, beta` are the angles which `vec A` make with x-axis and y-axis respectively. Then
` cos alpha = A_x/X = 1/2 = cos 60^@ or alpha =60^@`
` cos beta = A_y /A = (sqrt3)/2 = cos 30^@ or beta = 30^@`.
