A shot fired from a cannon explodes in air. What will be the changes in the momentum and the kinetic energy?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The linear momentum will be conserved, because explosion occurs from within, i.e., under internal forces only. However, KE will increase dur to (chemical) potential energy of the explosives.
