Can a body have momentum when its energy is negative?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Yes, when `KltV` , total energy `E=K+V` is negative. The body has the momentum `( :' K!=0)`. For example, in an atom, electron has momentum, though its energy is negative.

Assertion: A light body and a heavy body have same momentum. Then they also have same kinetic energy. Reason: Kinetic energy does not depand on mass of the body.

Assertion- The speed of a body can be be negative. Reason- If the body is moving in the opposite direction of positive motion, then its speed is negative.

Statement-I : The speed of a body can be negative. Statement-II : If the body is moving in the opposite direction of positive motion, then its speed is negative.

Can kinetic energy be negative? Explain.

Assertion: Energy can not be given to a system without giving it momentum. Reason: If kinetic energy is given to a body it means it has acquired momentum.
