A stone is dropped from the top of a high tower. Will the mechanical energy of the stone be conserbed or not if the force of friction due to air is not neglected ?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Mechanical energy is conserved only when forces involved are conservative. As force of friction due to air is non-conservative, therefore, mechanical energy of the stone is not conserved.
