A man of mass `m_(1)` is standing on a platform of mass `m_(2)` kept on a smooth horizontal surface. If the man moves a distance `d` w.r.t., the platform, find the displacement of the platform w.r.t., ground.

Here, mass of man `= m_(1)`
mass of platform `= m_(2)`
As the surface on which platform is placed is smooth, therefore no external force is acting along the horizonal, i.e.,
`F_(axt.) = 0`, Therefore, `oversetrarr(a_(cm)) = 0` and `overset rarr(upsilon_(cm)) =` const.
As `overset rarr(upsilon_(cm))` is zero initially, it would remain zero aven after the man moves.
Let `x_(1) =` displacement of man towards right
`x_(2)=` displacement of platform towards left
`:. m_(1)x_(1) = m_(2)x_(2)` and `x_(1) + x_(2) = d`
`(m_(2)x_(2))/(m_(1)) + x_(2) = d`
`x_(2) ((m_(2))/(m_(1)) + 1) = d`
`x_(2) = (m_(1)d)/(m_(1) + m_(2))`
