Demerits of Newlands' octaves:
i. Out of the 56 elements known, Newlands law of octaves was applicable only upto calcium.
ii. In order to fit all the known elements, Newlands placed two elements in the same position. For example, Co and Ni, Ce and La.
iii. Newlands' octaves did not have provision to accommodate the newly discovered elements.
