An electric dipole is placed along the X-axis `O`. Point `P` is at a distance of `20cm` from the origin such that `OP` makes an angle `pi//3` with the `X`-axis. If the electric field at `P` makes an angle `theta` with the`X`-axis the value of `theta` will be

A

`(pi)/(3)`

B

`(pi)/(3)+tan^(-1)((sqrt(3))/(2))`

C

`(2pi)/(3)`

D

`tan^(-1)((sqrt(3))/(2))`

Text Solution

The correct Answer is:
B

According to question we can draw following figure

As we have discussed earlier in therory `theta=(pi)/(3)+alpha`
`tan alpha= 1/2tan.(pi)/(3)implies alpha= tan^(-1).(sqrt(3))/(2)`
So, `theta=(pi)/(3)+tan^(-1).(sqrt(3))/(2)`
