The point charges `Q` and `-2Q` are placed at some distance apart. If the electirc field at the location of `Q` is `E`, the electric field at the location of `-2Q` will be

A

`-(3E)/(2)`

B

`-(E )/(2)`

C

`-E`

D

`-2E`

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The correct Answer is:
B

The intensity of electric field at a point due to charges `Q`, distance `r` is given by
`E= (1)/(4piepsilon_(0)) ((-2Q))/(r )`….(i)
Also `E'=(1)/(4piepsilon_(0))((Q))/(r )`…(2)
Dividing EQ.(1) by Eq.(2), we get
`(E )/(E' )=-(2Q)/(Q) implies E'= -(E)/(2)`
