Assertion: Two concentric conducting sph...

Assertion: Two concentric conducting spherical sheels are charged. The charge on the outer shell is varied keeping the charge on inner shell constant, as s result the electric potential difference between the two sheels does not change.
Reason: In the situation of statement-1, the electric field in the region between both the shells depends only on the charge existing on the inner shell.

A

If both assertion and reason are true and reson is the correct explanation of assertion.

B

If both assertion and reason are true but reason is not the correct explanation of assertion.

C

If assertion is true but reason is false.

D

If assertion and reason both are false.

The correct Answer is:
A

The potential at each point within an isolated thin conducting charged shell is same. Hence if charge is charged on this shell, potential at all points within the shell charge by same amount. Hence Reason is true.
The potential 'V' at any point on or inside the outer shell in Assertion is sum of potential due to outer shell `(V_(1))` and potential dut o inner shell `(V_(2))`.
`:. V = V_(1) + V_(2)`
from Reason 'V_(1)` (Potential due to outer shell) at all points on or inside the outer shell is same. further as the charge on outer shell is charged, potential at all points on and inside outer shell change by same amount.Hence Assertion is true and Reason is correct explanation.
