Assertion: If the distance between paral...

Assertion: If the distance between parallel plates of a capacitor is halved and dielectric constant is made three times, then the capacitor becomes `6` times.
Reason: Capacity of the capacitor does not depend upon the nature of the meterial.

A

If both assertion and reason are true but reason is not the correct explanation of assertion.

B

If both assertion and reason are true but reason is not the correct explanation of assertion.

C

If assertion is true but reason is false.

D

If assertion and reason both are false.

The correct Answer is:
B

By the formula capacitance of a cpacitor
`C_(1) = epsilon_(0) xx (KA)/(d) alpha (K)/(d)`
Hence, `(C_(1))/(C_(2)) = (K_(1))/(d_(1)) xx (d_(2))/(K_(2)) = (K_(1))/(K_(2)) xx (d//2)/(3K)`
`= (1)/(6)` or `C_(2) = 6C_(1)`
Again for capacity of a capacitor `C = (Q)/(V)`
Therefore, capacity of a capacitor does not depend upon the nature of the meterial o fthe capacitor.
