The Earth is acted upon by the gravitational force of attraction due to the sun. They why does the Earth not fall towards sun?

Earth is orbiting around the sun in a stable orbit. The gravitational attraction of sun exeted on Earth provided required centripetal force to Earth. Moreover, the gravitational force of attraction of the sun is perpendicular to the velcity of the Earth.
