A satellite of small mass burns during its descent and not during ascent. Why ?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The speed of a satellite during descent is much larger than that during its ascent. We know that the air resistance is directly proportional to the velocity of object moving in air. Therefore more heat is produced during descent of satellite than during its ascent. Due to it, the satellite burns up during descent.
