Lighter gases like `H_2`, He, etc. are rare in the atmosphere of the earth. Why?

It is so because the `rms` velocity of lighter gasses like `H_(2)`, etc. is greater than the escape velocity at the Earth's surface. Due to it, the lighter gases have escaped from the Earth's surface and their presence is air the atmosphere of Earth.
